Important Resources
The Intensive Learning Center is located in the city Lakewood serving the students of the Bellflower Unified School District. The school facilities include an administration building, 43 regular education classrooms, a multipurpose room, computer and science labs, an automated library, and a quality playground.
The ILC provides an excellent learning environment for approximately 565 students. The daily attendance rate at the school is 97.3 percent. Student enrollment reflects the diversity of Bellflower and includes a variety of ethnic backgrounds: Asian 10 percent, Filipino 5 percent, Hispanic 46 percent, African-American 18 percent, Caucasian 17 percent and multiple 4 percent.
The ILC has an administrator who provides the daily instructional leadership. Other certificated personnel serving the school include a psychologist and a speech and language specialist. All certificated staff meet the credential requirements for the State of California and a significant number hold advanced degrees, and all have pursued course work beyond their bachelor’s degree. Teachers work in grade level teams to provide excellent instruction for all students.
The Intensive Learning Center’s staff is guided by a shared commitment to educate all of its students to attain high levels of academic achievement. We hold the vision of developing within each student feelings of self-worth and a respect for cultural diversity and interdependence. As a staff, we recognize our own responsibility and emphasize each student’s personal and social responsibility toward the school and community.
In addition, our physical learning environment and school climate is student centered, safe and orderly, and fosters attitudes and behaviors that are respectful and supportive. ILC students strive to exemplify the 6 pillars of the Character Counts program: responsibility, trustworthiness, citizenship, caring, fairness, and respect. All students who attend the ILC are expected to abide by a strict uniform dress code.
The staff acknowledges that a home/school connection is essential to our student’s success. Parents and community members are actively involved in a broad range of activities and our well-organized, talented and dedicated PTA is very active.
We are the ILC Eagles! Watch us soar as we continue to provide a Standard of Excellence-Nothing Less!
